Music and Mental Health: Helpful Resources for Artists
May 16, 2024
Managing both your music and mental health can often be challenging and demanding, making it essential to carve out time for self-care and to prioritise your mental well-being.

Seeking help is a sign of strength and we encourage you to reach out for support whenever you need it. Taking the time you need for yourself can make a significant difference in maintaining your overall health and sustaining a successful career in music.

How music helps your mental health

Music is a form of escapism for millions around the globe. Listening to or creating your own tracks is one of the best ways to relieve stress and has even been found to reduce anxiety and cure depression.

Despite the creative outlet that making and releasing music online provides, the whole process can also take its toll on your mental well-being.

We understand how stressful and hectic the music industry can be at times, so to help you get the support you need, we’ve created this list of Music Industry Mental Health Resources to allow you to better manage any difficulties you may encounter.

You can also find more financial support through our Music Funding Map.

Music and Mental Health: Helpful Resources for Artists - Music Support

Music Support was set up in 2016 by music industry veterans aiming to eradicate the issues experienced by themselves throughout their careers.

The charity’s founders have all experienced some sort of health or addiction issues so are more than aware of how difficult it can be to struggle alone.

Deciding that enough was enough, they developed a personal and confidential support service that understood the specific needs and issues associated with the music industry. Check out their website for more information.

The music industry can be a difficult place at times, so you need to take some time for yourself and prioritise your mental health. We hope these resources offer useful guidance on how to deal with any issues that you’re experiencing and encourage you to reach out for help whenever you need it.
