5 Things Artists Forget When Releasing Music

You've uploaded the track, set the release date, and told everyone it's coming. Then release day hits, it's a blur, and two weeks later you're already thinking about the next one.

Lots of artists do this. And most artists are leaving real opportunities on the table because of it.

Here are five things that tend to get forgotten, and what to do about each one.

1. Organise your Metadata

Let’s start with the boring stuff. Metadata. Nobody wants to think about it. But incorrect or incomplete metadata, wrong genre tags, missing songwriter credits, misspelled featured artist names, creates problems that are genuinely difficult to fix after release.

Some of those issues affect how your music is categorised across platforms. For example, playlist editors at the major DSPs can filter submissions by genre, so incorrect tagging means there’s less chance it gets picked for editorial placement.

Before you release anything, take 20 minutes to go through your metadata properly. Check that your ISRC codes are assigned, your credits are accurate, and your genre tags actually reflect your sound.
